Apparently, with the poor placement of the antennaes within the Mac Pro's all metal case, wireless performance suffers causing dropouts and overall poor reception. However, the "fix" is as easy as re-wiring the antennaes.

Here are the instructions. Good Luck.

Here we go:

1. Shut down Google Chrome and remove it using an app remover such as AppZapper or something similar. Using an application remover ensures all plist and other related files are removed.

2. After Chrome is removed. On Lion go to the hidden (use the option key and the "Go" command in the menubar while in a Finder window, if on Snow Leopard or earlier, no need to use the option key, the Library folder is not hidden by default) folder "Library | Application Support | Google | Chrome" and remove all the items in the directory. It may be wise to duplicate your bookmarks using Firefox or Safari first to ease in restoring them back into Google Chrome.

3. Now using Safari (or Firefox if installed) re-download and install Google Chrome. When complete, start the browser and go to the menu item: "Chrome | Import Bookmarks And Settings" and choose Safari or Firefox (whichever you decided to use earlier to duplicate your bookmarks). Allow it to complete and all your bookmarks should be back in their normal locations. You may need to re-log into websites and save your passwords again (or use the excellent 1Password password manager and just re-install the browser extension).

UPDATE: Still having the same issues. Chrome stalls and takes forever to fully load web pages. Removed all traces of it (as explained above) and did another clean install. Fast again. Now discovered on other sites that disabling the "predict network actions to improve page load performance" option in settings resolves the issue. Giving that a try. Will report my findings.

Update (05/06/12): Un-selecting the "predict network actions to improve page load performance" is the fix. No further slowdowns or stalling.

Update (05/08/12): Unfortunately, the issue has returned. I have removed and discontinued using Chrome until Google fixes the issue.

Lately, I have tried again to give the Seagate Momentus XT Hybrid drive another look. Been using it as an external offsite backup in an OWC Mercury On The Go enclosure and decided to upgrade the firmware to the latest SD28 (had seen some stuttering with SD24) and re-install it into an Icy-Dock adapter into my Mac Pro tower. So far it has been working great. No lags or stuttering using Mac OS 10.7.1 Lion. Here is an excellent step by step on upgrading the firmware if you are doing the same.

Anyway, that is what I have been up to. With regard to what I am going to do with this blog, I am not sure. Not sure if I want to continue with the link farm format (Ha ha.. just kidding!) or switch to a less active full posting format. What do you guys think? I will re-enable commenting on this post for your comments. Had to permanently shut down commenting on the entire website due to spam abuse. Till next time.
