Why is there a progress bar when my Mac is starting up?

Moral of the story....don't shut down your Mac when it is trying to boot.  Otherwise, prepare for the old "progress bar" boot up.  (i.e. Your Mac is doing an fsck (f-suck to us old NIX guys) on your drive).

    Good stuff.
